Western numerology uses the Pythagorean Number Grid (below) to assign the numerical value to each letter of the english alphabet. Each column below is assigned a value; 1-9, and the letters are placed beneath the vibration that they are aligned with.

When calculating the Expression of the name, we assign the correct number value to each letter of our full name, given at birth (birth certificate name). We use the birth certificate name because it represents our 'original blueprint' in life and within it is hidden not only our talents and traits but the paths of opportunity we will have available to us along our journey.

Below is an example of a numerology name grid, using my birth certificate name:

Fill in the number values from the "Letter Grid" above, putting the vowels above the name and the consonants below the name.

Once you have each number value in it's correct place (this will make it easier to find the Soul Urge and Personality/Persona numbers later), add up the values - both vowels and consonants - for each name (first, middle and last) seperately. Place this number below the row of consonants under the name. I have colored this total black in my name grid. Finally, reduce each of these 3 name numbers to a single digit by adding (unless you have an 11, 22, or 33). The reduced name numbers are hot pink in my grid.

When creating a professional numerology chart, I go through all of these steps because I don't want to miss any important numbers or combinations. Numerology can be simplified (as I offer in NumberQuest Free) as a way of introducing someone to the overall meaning of their name and birthdate numbers, Cycles etc.. and it can also provide in-depth access into the many facets of our Destiny, Soul's 'Code', (our motivating desire) and our Personality, which I call the "Persona" in NumberQuest.

The Expression numbers shows us who we truly are, what we came into this life already knowing. This is where we feel most comfortable and how we automatically act. We attract people and situations to us that require our Expression so that they can further evolve. In this way we play the role of teacher. Naturally we are attracted to occupations that we resonate to, so the Expression number can be a strong factor in our choice of a career as well. Our Expression is the vehicle, with all its virtues and vices, that drives us along the path of our Destiny. It is the essence of our identity.
